It's so cute! I guess Japanese people can't celebrate New Year without this! I bought some as gifts for my friends too!
This is so cute Kagami-mochi is a tradition to wish for happiness in the new year. Usually display it from around December 28th and then eat it between January 11th and 20th!

Sato's Kirimochi is consistently delicious. It has cuts in it, so I cut it into small pieces and give it to my kids or put it in a hot pot.
They're exactly the same as the ones sold in Japan. They're individually packaged, pre-scored, and delicious, so I buy them every year. I appreciate the thoughtful touch of having the expiration date written on each one.

purple potato: cream and potato filling. the filling was a little grainy but paired well with the cream custard: custard filling without cream mango: mango custard with cream mango was the best flavor, and all three were dusted with coconut shavings. each mochi is about 4in in diameter, so very large and filling. you're supposed to eat all three the same day they arrive.
