I bought it to make miso soup.

It's not a "sharp, salty umami" type, but rather: It has a rich bean flavor, a deep color, and a lingering, savory taste, perfect for dipping sushi, teriyaki, mixing with rice, or reducing sauce when pan-frying beef.
